Tires

Tires. Tires? Yes, tires. Who would have thought that using an old tire would be one of the greatest things you could do for your workout routine.

Training with tires will add a new dimension to your strength and conditioning program. Whether you are just getting started, a hardcore athlete, basketball player or football enthusiast, using tires will significantly increase both your strength and endurance.

Here are several of the exercises we do using tires at House Strenth Camp:

• Tire Flips: You've probably seen this in "The Worlds Strongest Man" competitions. If not, imagine flipping a tire, over and over, across a parking lot. When performing the Tire Flips, you will use muscls in your legs, back, arms, stomach and chest. It will also increase your cardiovascular endurance.

• Tire Pushes: Assume a pushing position with your hands on the tire that is resting flat on the ground. Your feet are set back and ready to push. While maintaining your position with an active core, begin pushing back with your legs. You’ll find that this will really challenge your core and shoulder stability while your legs are working tirelessly to overcome the friction created by the tire’s contact with the surface.

• Sledgehammers: With his sledgehammer in hand, you will smash it down in a total body movement that requires great body control and power. Repeat this movement over and over for a great anaerobic workout. THe heavier the sledgehammer, the more intense the workout.Excellent abdominal workout

• Sledgehammer Tire Pulls: In addition to the slams, our athletes stand in front of the tire and hook it with the end of the sledgehammer. With their hips pushed back and back flat, they will backpedal while pulling the big tire. This is a great movement for challenging the quads.

• Tire Runs: In this exercise, the tires are much like many people use a weighted sled. Our athletes will hook up one or two tires to a harness and perform sprints. This will increase your speed, endurance, cardiovascular endurance and leg strength.

• Tire Throws: Tire throws integrate the whole body as the power required for the movement initiates with the amount of force the lower body puts in the ground, followed by the transfer of this energy through the core and up the body to finish with an explosive rotational throw.

At House Strength Camp, we have tires ranging from 25 pounds to nearly 600 pounds. THis is truly "old school" training and it will make you incredibly strong in a short period of time.
